STAR Exemption - Dec. 31 is the deadline to register for the Basic STAR property tax exemption. You can do so by visiting www.tax.ny.gov or call 518-457-2036. Senior citizens receiving the Enhanced STAR exemption are not required to register.
Leaves - City residents are asked to not rake leaves into city streets. The City of Hornell Department of Public Works will pick up bagged leaves. Please place the bags in the area between the sidewalk and curb, in front of residents’ homes.
Yard Waste - The City Yard Waste Site is now open 7 days a week for residents to drop off leaves, brush, etc.
New House - A brand-new house, built by BOCES and the City of Hornell, will be sold to the highest-qualified bidder. The house is located at 62 East Main St., Hornell. Features include three bedrooms, two baths, and central air. The house is in move-in condition. An Open House at the 62 East Main St. property will be held from noon-5 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2013 and 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013. The City will accept sealed bids for the property up until 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
Lap Swim - The Hornell School District is sponsoring a Morning Lap Swim program beginning Sept. 9. The pool will be open from 6am-7:15am on Monday through Friday (when school is in session).
STAR - New York State requires all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the State Tax Dept. in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years. Common Council Meeting - The Hornell Common Council will meet in special session at 6:00 pm on MONDAY, December 9, 2013. The next regular session of the Council will be on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 7:00 pm.

Customers of the City of Hornell Water Supply in the area of St. Ann’s, Hope and Rural Cemeteries(specifically North Main St., Cemetery Rd., McLean Ave. and Old Almond Rd.) are hereby ordered by the New York State Department of Health-Hornell District Office to boil all water for drinking and food purposes.
Open Lap Swim
The Hornell City School District is sponsoring Open Lap Swim at the Intermediate School on Mondays through Fridays from 6:00 am - 7:30am and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.when school is in session. For more information please contact the Hornell Intermediate School (324-1304)
