Hydrant Flushing - The City will be flushing hydrants in the Town of Hornellsville/Village of North Hornell and the City of Hornell between the hours of 11:00 pm and 7:00 am during the week of October 18, 2015 – October 23, 2015. Residents are encouraged to refrain from washing clothes during flushing hours and to check their water for discoloration before use. If you experience discolored water, let the cold water run until it clears.
Columbus Day - Please note the following for Columbus Day (Oct. 12, 2015): 1. City Hall, City Court, and Hornell Public Library will be closed that day. All reopen on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. 2. Garbage collection in the City of Hornell will proceed as normal. There will be no delay. 3. The street-sweeping schedule will not change. All motor vehicles must be off the streets, as usual, overnight before the day of regular garbage collection.
Recycling - Hornell is now running a "No-Sort Recycling Program". You no longer have to sort paper, plastic and glass. Recycling pickup is still the third full week of the month on your normal trash pickup day. Everyone is encouraged to take part in the program and help sustain the environment for future generations.
Cat licensing - Hornell City residents are reminded that all cats within the City limits must be licensed with the City Clerk. The cost to register your pet is $7.50 if spayed/neutered or $15.50 if not. Please bring proof of rabies vaccination with you when you license your cat.
Street Sweeper - The street sweeper is now running. No parking will be permitted on city streets from midnight-6 am in wards scheduled for trash pickup the following day. This is in effect regardless of holidays. Cars in violation will be ticketed.
Yard Waste Site - The City Yard Waste Site is open daily.
Credit Cards - For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover for payment of your taxes, water and garbage bills. Please note that there is a convenience fee of 2.5% of the transaction or a minimum $1.95
Common Council Meeting - The next regular meeting of the Common Council will be MONDAY, OCTOBER 26 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers, 82 Main St., Hornell. PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE

Customers of the City of Hornell Water Supply in the area of St. Ann’s, Hope and Rural Cemeteries(specifically North Main St., Cemetery Rd., McLean Ave. and Old Almond Rd.) are hereby ordered by the New York State Department of Health-Hornell District Office to boil all water for drinking and food purposes.
Open Lap Swim
The Hornell City School District is sponsoring Open Lap Swim at the Intermediate School on Mondays through Fridays from 6:00 am - 7:30am and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.when school is in session. For more information please contact the Hornell Intermediate School (324-1304)
